MPRE Results - For those awaiting the MPRE results in order to be licensed
February 2025 or prior bar exam applicants awaiting the MPRE results from the March 2025 MPRE, and who had their results sent to Virginia, please DO NOT CALL our office to find out if we have received your scores or to inquire about when you are going to be licensed.
The next licensing date is May 15, 2025*. Those applicants who passed a previous Virginia bar exam (February 2025 or prior), have met all requirements, and are otherwise qualified, will be licensed on May 15, 2025*.
Upon being licensed, an email will be sent to the email address on record advising you of your licensure and the procedures to then follow.
If you have changed your email address, please complete a Change of Address form.
*This is a licensing date only, NOT a date to appear to be sworn in.
July 2025 Bar Exam
Filing Deadline: The statutory filing deadline for the July 2025 Bar Exam is *May 10, 2025. Click here for information.
*The statutory filing deadline, May 10, 2025, is a Saturday; therefore, the filing deadline is extended to Monday, May 12, 2025.
Board Announces Virginia Bar Exam Content and Format Beginning July 2028
The Virginia Board of Bar Examiners has announced the content and format for the Virginia law component of the bar exam beginning July 2028. This exam will consist of multiple-choice questions on the following subjects: Domestic Relations, Evidence, Torts, Virginia Civil Procedure, Virginia Criminal Law & Procedure, and Wills, Trusts & Estates. The Virginia law component, which will be 3 hours or less, will be administered on the afternoon of day two. More Information
Board Removes Subjects from the Virginia Essay Exam
The Rules of the Virginia Board of Bar Examiners have been amended. See Section I.B. Beginning with the July 2025 Virginia Bar Exam, the Virginia Essay Exam will no longer test an applicant’s knowledge of the following subjects: Business Organizations, Federal Practice and Procedure, Uniform Commercial Code Article 3 (Negotiable Instruments), and Personal Property.
NextGen Bar Exam
The Virginia Board of Bar Examiners (the Board) has announced its decision to adopt a new test format for the bar exam, the NextGen Bar Exam, developed by the National Conference of Bar Examiners. The first administration of the NextGen Bar Exam in Virginia will take place in July 2028.More Information
